The company has the fewest number of manufacturers of any similar entity yet maintains by far the highest sales volume in the industry. This is especially important for manufacturers, as the firm is able to effectively promote their respective merchandise and does not dilute effort by representing an excess amount of clientele.

The company was formed in 1954 to represent manufacturers seeking coverage within the Midwest territory in the Beauty and Barber Supply Industry. In 1973 Greg Dawson, bringing experience from a Fortune 500 company, joined the firm and assumed ownership in 1976.

During the next few years the sales force was gradually upgraded to become the youngest and most professional sales and marketing team within the industry. New manufacturers were carefully selected to give the company the growth needed to successfully address the changing market.

In January 1986 the company was expanded to provide its manufacturers with coverage in the Southwest portion of the United States. Then, to better accommodate manufacturer's needs, Dawson and Associates expanded into the Southeast during the Spring of 1992. To further address a rapidly changing industry climate, in November 1997, Greg Dawson purchased two West Coast brokerage groups and integrated them into one core company.

As we enter the new millennium, it becomes apparent that rapid consolidation of distribution has changed our industry dramatically. Old boundary lines have effectively become obsolete. The new breed of distribution demands coverage, sales meetings, and education in territories ranging from California to the East Coast.
